Big gratitude to the 30+ folks who came out yesterday in Fort Mill for our day of action! We had a great time, lots of happy honks and thumbs up and cheering from the folks passing by.
We also had an excellent response to the Community Interest Survey we sent out a couple weeks ago, and we’re in the process of reaching out to folks who expressed interest in joining our small team of volunteers to keep things moving as well as reaching out to the organizations that were already on our list as well as the ones shared with us in the survey.
From the survey, we also determined our meeting and communications cadence.
Going forward, here’s what you can expect:
One in-person meeting each month
Virtual meetings can be added as-needed
One newsletter every week (ish)
Our Community Calendar is up and running. You can find that here. Because we’re only sending an email once a week, you may notice events on the Calendar before you see an email. Ultimately, we hope the Calendar grows so much we couldn’t possibly fit it all in an email! If you don’t see something on our Calendar that you think should be there, please send us an email so we can get it added.
While we want this newsletter and the Calendar to be our primary points of communication, we also know a lot of folks are on social media. We’re in the process of ramping up our social media plan now, as well as building a Discord server where we can all gather to chat and share ideas.
Next Meeting
Our next meeting is this coming Friday, 3/28 from 5:30-7 p.m. We’ll be upstairs at The Mercantile in Rock Hill again. If you need to arrive late, that’s totally fine! Just slip on in.
We’ll share updates on coalition-building, discuss our upcoming April 5 Hands Off! protest (see below), and hear ideas from community members about actions they’d like to present to the group. There is also a two-week Congressional Recess coming up in April — let’s make some plans!
Mark Your Calendar
On Saturday, April 5, we are joining with 50501, Hands Off!, MoveOn, Working Families, and dozens more progressive organizations in the nationwide mobilization to tell Trump and Musk Hands Off! Here’s the event on Mobilize. If you sign up there, you’ll receive automatic reminders from Mobilize. We’re confirming the agenda and speakers, and will share that information soon.
The Week Ahead:
There’s a lot happening this week (isn’t there always!).
Recommended Actions:
Call state representatives about the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion bill that would strip protections in South Carolina. Representative John King spoke about this at the Town Hall this past Thursday, and he said the calls help.
