What an evil regime.
A lot of folks in person and online the past few weeks are saying they don’t know what to do anymore, that nothing is working. The despair and hopelessness is palpable.
It’s natural. And.
Doing something, anything helps with the anxiety. It helps with the dread. It helps with the hopelessness.
And many people don’t take small actions, because they don’t feel like significant actions.
But none of us can fix what’s wrong in this country by ourselves. None of us can do everything alone. We need each other, and we need millions and millions of individuals taking the small actions.
There is no action too small.
There’s a common quote in movement spaces, “Everyone wants a revolution, but nobody wants to do the dishes” and lemme tell ya, after organizing for more than two decades — it’s true.
For communities and people to survive, there still have to be people washing the dishes, making the food, caring for the sick, making sure trash gets picked up, and so much more. Whatever your skillset is, whatever your capacity is, no matter how insignificant you may think it is, I can promise you the movement needs you.
Actions You Can Take Right Now
We’re big fans of reminding ourselves, each other, and you that protesting is only one of the tools we have available to us. So let’s look at some other options.
Check out this scorecard, take the action steps, tally up your points. And then do it again tomorrow. You could challenge your friends to see who has the most points at the end of the week and do a silly prize. You could start a group chat to hold each other accountable and stay motivated. You could make it part of your morning routine, instead of doomscrolling the news.
Review our Resources page (or check it out for the first time) and take the actions. There’s a new resource at the top with a whole list of actions you can do that aren’t voting or protesting.
Sign up for virtual trainings and political education so you can stay engaged in the fight and be around likeminded people.
Volunteer with us for Rock Hill Pride and show up loud for the queer community.
