Protest, Food Drive, School Supply Drive, and Anti-ICE Sick Out
Plus, a peek at the July 4 project we mentioned last week 👀
Last week, we shared a mini review of the last seven months, and a look ahead.
Tomorrow — Saturday 7/12 — we’re gathering downtown for a demonstration. We’ll be holding our regular food drive and also a school supplies drive to support the families and teachers here in our local community as they prepare to return to school next month.
We are still searching for the school supply lists for Clover and Fort Mill schools. We’ll update here once we track them down.
Aug 1 Day of Action: Sick Out
You may notice a new addition to the graphic above. In solidarity with General Strike US and General Strike Carolinas, groups like York County Rising, 50501 South Carolina, 50501 North Carolina, ILM Action Network, and many more have joined the coalition organizing an Anti-ICE Sick Out. This is the first wave of work stoppage as organizers around the country prepare for a longer nationwide strike. Part of preparing for a larger General Strike includes building the mutual aid fund and resources to sustain striking workers. For that, organizers need your feedback. A peek at our special project…
We all need a little more joy in our lives right now and this definitely provided. Last week, members of York County Rising and Rock Hill Pride showed up in Tega Cay for the Fourth of July parade. We had an absolute blast coming together to decorate our float — with a significant amount of community support 🫶 — and seeing all the happy and excited faces as we rolled through the streets. Isn’t our Statue of Liberty wonderful? (The flag says, “We the people means everyone”.)
We did run out of candy and red, white, and blue necklaces to toss out wayyyyy more quickly than expected. Lesson learned: Next time, buy 10x as much of both and be a little less enthusiastic when grabbing handfuls to toss 😂
Alright folks, that’s it for us this week. See you in the streets Saturday!
